News & Updates

  • FLL Volunteer Opportunity

    FLL Volunteers,
For the Tri-Cities 11th season, we have enough teams that we needed to split our tournament.  This is wonderful news.  This news also means that we need to recruit enough volunteers to staff two separate tournaments on Dec. 3 (Ochoa MS in Pasco) and Dec. 10 (Chief Joseph MS in Richland).
If you previously registered with the FIRST Volunteer management system you are already familiar with the system and your volunteer screening should still be good (screenings last for three years).  As such, I’m hoping that you can be the backbone of our tournament volunteer organization this year.

If you have not registered, please click on the "Create FIRST Account" link and follow the steps given.  You will then be able to search for activities to volunteer for.
The URL for the FIRST volunteer system is: www.firstinspires.org/vims

For more information on the FIRST Lego League, please visit: http://www.firstlegoleague.org/

Please log into the system and register as soon as possible.
The following is a brief description of the keys roles at our tournament.  More detailed descriptions can be found on the volunteer registration site. The most critical volunteer trait is a strong desire to help the FLL teams have fun—we can and will train for the rest.  Most of the roles require a full day commitment for which you’ll receive a volunteer t-shirt, lunch, and a ton of gratitude. If you’re not sure what to sign up for, please feel free to email me.

    Judges

This season we are looking for 40 Judges, in the following areas:

    • Project Judges - evaluate the teams’ project presentations
    • Technical Judges - evaluate the teams robot design and technical accomplishments
    • Core Value Judges - evaluate how well a team works together

Judges will be provided with online training which requires a little over an hour of training and a quick overview the morning of the tournament.

    Referees

In addition to judges we are looking for ten adult volunteers who are willing to learn the Robot Game and be a referee at one or more tournaments.  This position requires that you learn the game rules, participate in some online referee training and certification and are willing and able to cheer on the students as much as referee the game fairly during the exciting afternoon portion of our events.

    General Volunteers:

In addition to judges and referees we are looking for adult volunteers who can help manage other parts of the tournaments on the day of the event.  Volunteers are needed for Team Registration, Team Pit Area Administration, Robot Game Announcer, Score keepers, Setup/Takedown, etc.

Thanks again for all that you have done and currently do,
