  • Wanapum Dam Tour

    On Thursday, March 28, the Grant County PUD will be hosting the Columbia Basin Section for an hour tour of Wanapum Dam on the Columbia River not far from Vantage.  We will be given an in-depth look at the functions, construction, and operation of this major hydroelectric and irrigation facility.  Wanapum Dam was started in 1959 and entered operation in 1963 and generates 1,040 MW of electricity.  The dam is 185 feet high and 8,320 feet long and its reservoir, Lake Wanapum, holds 796,000 acre-feet of water.

    When:  March 28, at 10am to approximately noon.
    Where to meet:  Meet at the Hydro Office Building, near the dam.  Instructions, hard hats and vests (you can bring your own) will be handed out there.  To get the to the Hydro Office Building, go to the Wanapum Dam and then follow the signs to the office.
    Kids:  Children 10 years and older are welcome.
    Clothing:  Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.  No shorts or dresses/skirts.
