Technology & Society
To constitute a Technical Group of the ASME in accordance with the Society's Constitution, By-Laws, and Rules in the fields of environmental control of air pollution, noise, solid wastes, and other environmental contaminants, and the processing of wastes for recovery of resources, reuse, and disposal; and of transportation, transport systems, and vehicles traversing the Earth's land, atmosphere, water, and extraterrestrial domain.
To promote the art and science of mechanical engineering applied to systems and technology for environmental control and waste processing, and to systems and vehicles used for exploration and transportation on and in the Earth's land, sea, atmosphere, and extraterrestrial domain in accordance with the scopes of the constituent divisions, committees, and subdivisions of the Technical Group.
To maintain current knowledge of the activities of the divisions, committees, and subdivisions of the group in respect to: (a) publishing papers and reports, (b) organizing and holding technical meetings, (c) coordinating activities with other Technical Groups and their divisions, (d) supporting and coordinating activities in research and national technical codes and standards within ASME and (e) coordinating these activities with groups, organizations or individuals that are not members of ASME.
Aerospace Division (AERO) Concerns mechanical engineering of aircraft and manned/unmanned spacecraft design, including adaptive ("smart") structures and materials, propulsion systems life support equipment.
Environmental Engineering Division (EED) ASME division concerning air, ground and water pollution control technologies, environmental remediation,and waste management.
Materials And Energy Recovery Division (MER) ASME division addressing the design, construction and operation of solid waste processing facilities.
Noise Control and Acoustics Division (NCAD) ASME technical division concerning noise control and acoustics principles and its applications to noise control engineering.
Rail Transportation Division (RTD) ASME division covering engineering of railroad and mass transit systems, locomotives, freight, passenger, and commuter cars.
