  • German-US Research Interaction

    Dear ASME MED Member:

From February 10-12, Manufacturing researchers from the U.S. and Germany held a workshop to investigate the potential for research interactions between these two countries. The final report of this workshop is attached.

Recognizing there are some cultural differences between the U.S. and Germany, especially with respect to academic culture, there is nonetheless significant similarity and opportunity for collaboration. The organizers of the workshop have made a number of recommendations for fostering such interactions, but it is important to note that there is no need to wait for new programs to develop; research interactions between German and American researchers can be supported through existing programs.

The workshop organizers therefore would like to encourage you to propose U.S.-German interactions in your next proposal.

    Best Regards,

    Steven Schmid
