Dear Colleagues, This letter is to inform you of the NIST Reusable Abstractions of Manufacturing Processes Challenge. The goal of this challenge is to invite students, faculties, researchers, and manufacturers interested in submitting models of any manufacturing process and demonstrating application of the ASTM E3012-16 for characterizing Unit Manufacturing Processes (UMP) for information sharing and sustainability assessment. The goal is for these standardized models to be reused, extended, and modified for many applications including simulation and optimization. We envision a collection of the resultant models can be composed into system-level analysis that will have the potential to become great resources to facilitate and speed up models development that will benefit the manufacturing community. To reach a wider audience, we are asking you help spread the news to those who may be interested. For more information, visit: https://challenge.gov/challenge/ramp-reusable-abstractions-of-manufacturing-processes Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you. Swee Leong

The William T. Ennor Manufacturing Technology Award is presented to an individual or team of individuals for developing or contributing significantly to an innovative manufacturing technology, the implementation of which has resulted in substantial economic and/or societal benefits. The award was established by the Production Engineering Division (now the Manufacturing Engineering Division—MED) in conjunction with the Alcoa Company in 1990. The award is in the form of a $1000 honorarium, Vermeil Medal and Certificate.
The M. Eugene Merchant Manufacturing Medal of ASME/SME is awarded to an individual who has had significant influence and responsibility for improving the productivity and efficiency (either by research or by implementation of research) of the manufacturing operation(s). This award was established in 1986 in honor of M. Eugene Merchant. The award is in the form of a $1500 honorarium, Vermeil Medal and Certificate.
The Milton C. Shaw Manufacturing Research Medal established in 2009, recognizes significant fundamental contributions to the science and technology of manufacturing processes. The award is in the form of a $1500 honorarium, Bronze Medal and Certificate.
