Major Achievements include 1.Identification of potential excitation for a 2-stage Centrifugal Air compressor and its determination through testing 2.Prediction of critical speed and amplification factor using RARE and comparison with test results. 3.Containment calculation for impeller and scroll. 4. Flow calculation for the drain of oil from the gearbox to the oil tank. 5. Initial one dimensional design including velocity triangles for a 2.3m3/s flow fan. 6. Submitted a paper in ASME conference with name PREDICTION AND COMPARISON OF CRITICAL SPEEDS AND POTENTIAL EXCITATION USING INHOUSE DEVELOPED SOFTWARE FOR A INTEGRALLY GEARED CENTRIFUGAL AIR COMPRESSOR and accepted for presentation.

Main Contribution were 1. Design of a Gear coupling for an 800hp Centrifugal Air Compressor 2. Torsional Analysis of the drive train for 800hp 3-stage centrifugal air compressor. 3. Understanding the design philosophy behind Hydrodynamic bearings, Shafts and gears used in the drive train.

Study included the Design of hydrodynamic bearings, condition monitoring and fault diagnostics of rotating equipments such as turbines and compressors . As a part of the main project a program is made with name RARE, which is capable of doing rotordynamic calculations such as critical speed both torsion and lateral, response for unbalance and is validated against standard problems and commercial software such as XL-rotor,DyRoBeS etc.

This design project was held among all the students of the course. It was an intense two weeks project and the objective was to carry out the mechanical design of a whole Wind Turbine from scratch
