Tom Fehring discusses his book at the event.
The Milwaukee Section of ASME co-hosted, along with the Society of Plastics Engineers, an event at Milwaukee Tool attended by nearly 100 members. After a warm welcome by Scott Anderson, Sr VP of Engineering, the night included a presentation by Tom Fehring from his new book “The Magnificent Machines of Milwaukee,” focused on the early history of Milwaukee Tool. This was followed by a presentation from Justin Ferrante, Group Manager of E-Commerce, about the innovation and strategy Milwaukee has followed over the past 50 years to achieve the growth we have seen recently.

After the presentations, the audience broke into four groups for a tour of the facilities. Included in the tour were short presentations on Battery and Motor technology, Rapid Prototyping (RPD), Milwaukee’s Culture of innovation and obsession and Rapid Innovation Center (RIC). The RPD capabilities include SLS/SLA, EDM, rapid injection molding, as well as advanced machining centers. Over 32,000 unique parts were made by this team in 2018 to help speed design to market. In the RIC, attendees were able to see all the various machining centers and capabilities used to prototype Sawzall® blades and cutting accessories. Semi-automated test fixtures were also on display to demonstrate testing capabilities.
This well attended event was a great way to start 2019. We hope to see everyone at future events this winter and spring.
