ASME OC Professional Section Meeting
Local Brewery Tour
Come join ASME Orange County for our September meeting and meet the new board while we tour a local family-run brewery and learn all about the beer-making process! And better yet…first beer is on us!

Thursday, September 13, 2018
Tour begins promptly at 7:00pm

This event is free for all ASME members.

Four Sons Brewing
18421 Gothard Street, Ste 100
Huntington Beach, CA 92648

About Four Sons Brewing
Founded in 2014, Four Sons Brewing truly is a family-run business. Stop by the taproom in Huntington Beach and you will most likely find Duke (aka dad) and Daune (aka mom) and the “four sons” – Deven, Derek, Drew, and Dustin – doing everything from checking equipment and sifting grain, to bottling, packaging, and filling glasses. Our taproom really is where it’s at. With more than 12 beer varietals on tap at all times, everyone is sure to find their own favorite. Family and friends are at the core of our business so round up the troops, bring the kids and yes, even canine children are welcome. Hungry? Food trucks serving up unique culinary creations park right outside the taproom and offer a variety of great grub. And with numerous TVs, you can count on the game being on.

AGENDA
7:00 PM - Networking and Refreshments
7:30 PM - ASME Orange County Presents: FIRST LEGO League - Affordable, Attractive, and Accessible Pathway into STEM About Learn about the FIRST LEGO League and how it is creating excitement toward the STEM fields for our youth! Guided by adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS(r) technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.
It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along their discovery journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges.
Speakers
Christine Morgan, Sandy Trissell, and Trina Baldwin All three presenters are heavily involved in the FIRST LEGO League. Christine and Sandy are the Operational Partners for New Mexico and annual Judges at the World Festival. Trina Baldwin is the Head Referee in South Carolina and a Referee at World Festival.

Power & Compression Systems is resurrecting its three one-day seminars on
• GAS TURBINE OPERATION & MAINTENANCE
• COGENERATION
• COMPRESSOR OPERATION, CONTROL & MAINTENANCE
Gas Turbine Operation & Maintenance based on Tony Giampaolo’s book, “Gas Turbine Handbook: Principles and Practices”, begins with a brief history of gas turbines and the technological improvements made to them throughout the years. It then explores jet and mechanical drive applications, heavy industrial and aero-derivative hardware, before discussing gas turbine systems theory, gas turbine controls and parameter characteristics (vibration, exhaust gas temperature, rotor speed and oil pressure and temperature). Inlet air filters and inlet air cooling, gas turbine exhaust treatment, acoustics and noise control, detectable problems and boroscope inspections are also covered. A copy of Tony’s book will be provided to each attendee as part of the course fee.
The Cogeneration seminar provides an introduction to cogeneration, its objectives, definitions, and applications, as well as climatic influences, waste heat recovery, advantages of cogeneration, barriers to cogeneration, environmental restraints, cogeneration technologies, heat recovery, and equipment description.
Compressor Operation, Control & Maintenance based on Tony Giampaolo’s book “Compressor Handbook: Principles & Practices” offers information on centrifugal, axial and reciprocating compressors, surge, the effect of operation conditions on compressors, throughput control, surge control and instrument requirements. A copy of Tony’s book will be provided to each attendee as part of the course fee.
Course dates and locations are yet to be determined. The University of Phoenix facilities in Gardena, CA and La Palma, CA are being considered. Course fee is $750.00 per one-day course. A $50.00 discount will be provided for individuals attending multiple courses.
Please contact Tony Giampaolo to attend any of the courses and feel free to offer suggestions about course locations and dates. Your feedback is appreciated. Tony can be at (949) 582-8545 or Fax (949) 680-3460.
