At ASME- Petroleum Division, we believe that outstanding engineering begins with a solid educational foundation. We give out $140,000 each year to promote student interest in engineering in the petroleum industry. We help students reach their academic goals.
Students interested in any phase of the Petroleum Industry including Drilling, Completions, Facilities, Pipe Lines, Rigs, Operations, Materials, Equipment Manufacturing, Plant Design and Operation, Maintenance, Environmental Protection and Innovations are eligible to apply for the scholarships.
Eligibility for scholarships:
• Submit a maximum of two page and a minimum of one page, typed, double spaced essay detailing the student’s interest in the petroleum industry, what challenges the industry offers them and what value they may add to the industry.
• Provide a letter of recommendation from a Section Faculty Advisor or teacher from the disciplines of engineering, math, and/or science.• Provide an official transcript of current enrollment from an ABET accredited (domestic) university or college’s registrar office (xerox and electronic copies and/or faxes are not acceptable).• Be a current member in good standing of ASME.
Scholarships in the amount of $2,000, will be given to individual college students.Additional Eligibility:• The college student must have completed at least 1 semester or 2 quarters of an engineering curriculum but still have at least 1 semester or 2 quarters of under graduate school remaining June of each year of the scholarship award.• Be a current member in good standing of an ASME Student Chapter • Have an overall GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 system.
Graduate ScholarshipsThe ASME Petroleum Division offers two yearly graduate awards that provide financial support to a student who has earned a bachelor degree in an engineering curriculum and has been accepted in a graduate engineering school. The ASME Petroleum Division seeks to ensure the vitality of the human resource base in the mechanical engineering field as applied to the petroleum industry and will award two annual graduate sponsorship's of $2,000 to the most qualified applicants.Additional Eligibility• The graduate student must be accepted for enrollment n a graduate degree program in mechanical engineering.• Have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 system.• Not be attending school as a member of any branch of the Armed Services nor is obligated to serve an enlisted period in any branch of the Armed Services following graduation.• Submit an additional letter of recommendation from an ASME member who is currently employed in the petroleum industry.
Submission and SelectionInterested ASME Student Members should submit his/her complete Student Scholarship Application to the ASME for review and evaluation.
