The ASME Philadelphia Section has arranged for a group tour of the Covanta Conshohocken Renewable Energy Plant. This plant converts municipal waste into electricity.
Incineration is an uncontrolled combustion process without energy recovery. Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facilities that recover energy from municipal solid waste (MSW) in specially designed boilers to ensure complete combustion and the recovery of energy. The energy recovery – in the form of steam and electricity – is then used for the communities in which the facilities operate. EfW facilities also employ state-of-the-art pollution control equipment to scrub and filter emissions, preventing their release into our environment. The result is clean, renewable energy.
Tour Time/Date: 1:00pm Friday, May 18, 2018
Covanta Address: 1155 Conshohocken Rd, Conshohocken, PA 19428

The ASME Philadelphia 2018 Awards night was a fantastic event. Dr. Yasha Kresh gave a dynamic and engaging keynote on the latest in artificial heart technology, and 10 student teams from across the Tri-state area came to showcase their sponsored projects. We were also very happy to present Mr. Peter Genovese with the "Outstanding Student of the Year" award. Finally, Mr. Joseph Silvaggio was honored as a 50-year ASME member who spoke about his career in industry.
