Mr. Drew Brown of the Philadelphia Water Department will provide us with a presentation and tour of the Fairmount Water Works describing its history and innovative design features. The Fairmount Water Works is a National Mechanical Engineering Landmark, Civil Engineering Landmark, American Water Works Association Landmark, and U.S. National Historic Landmark. The Water Works was built in stages between 1812 and 1861 on the Schuylkill River at the foot of the prominent hill called Faire Mount and remained a key part of the City’s water system until 1909. It is world-renowned for the ingenuity displayed in its engineering and architectural design.
