  • Webinar: Introduction to Intellectual Property & Patents

Thursday, December 10 at 6pm EST

Our first virtual event of the Fall will be a presentation by Brian Kauffman, a shareholder at Nixon and Vanderhye PC, introducing intellectual property for engineers, focusing mostly on patents. The following topics will be covered:

    • The different types of intellectual property (what is a copyright, what is a trademark, what is a patent, what is a trade secret).
    • Considerations before pursuing a patent.
    • Suggested actions to take (or avoid) before pursuing a patent.
    • Brief introduction to the patent obtainment process.
    • Considerations after a patent has been granted.

The presentation will last about 30 minutes, followed by time for Q&A.

Brian Kauffman is a graduate of Georgia Tech and Catholic University. He is a former U.S. Patent and Trademark patent examiner and has over 20 years of combined engineering and legal experience. He is also a member of ASME and the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).
